Well, umm... I'm sure there are good reasons to consider getting rid of the penny, but I don't think that's one of them.

it's conceivable that he meant "in the world," but he'd be wrong -- the cent is still stronger than the yen!

I hadn't considered that he might have meant globally, but yeah... as another example, 5 Nicaraguan centavos (they don't have 1 centavo coins) are worth one fourth of a penny.
