fun with photoshop

If all goes according to plan, starting next week I'll be leaving work at 2:30 every Tuesday to help run an after-school digital art program for high school students. That is, I *will* be doing this, but it's unclear whether the school will actually have its act together enough for us to start next week. Anyway, I'm excited, and feeling like I should play around with Photoshop a little more before going in and trying to teach it to other people. Last night, I ended up in Jalene's room, where we tried to come up with an inspiring project that would use ~20 pounds of keys.

Then Amrita got home with her father, who was visiting from Massachusetts, and they invited us and Michelle (another housemate) to walk over to Thaiphoon to have dinner with them. Amrita's dad treated us all, which was very nice, although he seemed seriously distressed that all of us were vegetarian ("What do they have for you here? You can eat nothing. You can eat grass.").

After getting back to the house, Jalene and I weren't making any progress with the keys, so we gave up on that, and Jalene suggested that we take some pictures and play with them in Photoshop. Since it was cold and raining outside, and not raining but fairly cold in the rest of the house, we were limited to taking pictures in Jalene's fairly small room. This seemed like a perfect opportunity to try out the Photomerge feature of Photoshop, so this is what we did. We went all the way around her room, taking turns with the camera, and then stitched the resulting pictures together, patching things up with the clone stamp tool. Here's a composite of four of them, which actually contains five of us, if you count Jalene's reflection in the window:

2*Sarah, 3*Jalene

It doesn't stand up to close scrutiny, but I was pretty pleased, overall. Except for the hazy black clouds around the edges... I couldn't bring myself to crop the ragged edges.

Autostitch is also a whole lot of fun to play around with, if you get the chance.
